Though we all appreciate the aesthetics of a good monospaced typeface, this can be difficult to use and apply in larger text or headlines. There are times when you’re looking for that mono vibe, you want a fake mono — you want Aeonik Fono! This unique type family is the solution for typographers seeking a monospace flavour, without any of the typesetting “inconveniences” of a truly monospaced typeface.
Aeonik Fono has been designed to live in the space between the classical Aeonik and Aeonik Mono. Its letter shapes are are slightly less exaggerated than a true mono font, making it easier to read. It features proportional spacing and some kerning, all of which make text setting a pleasure. It is available in 7 weights, ranging from Thin to Black. The extensive language support allows type setting in most European languages written with the Latin script.
Just like the original Aeonik, Aeonik Fono features close apertures with perpendicular stroke endings, clear letter shapes. To emulate the mono feel, long serifs have been added to letters like ‘i’, ‘j’, ‘l’, and ‘I’ to help fill out the space. Many might know Aeonik for its numerous stylistic sets. Aeonik Mono and Fono bring their own twist to this game, featuring many different boxed and circled numerals, as well as alternates for the characters ‘a’, ‘f’, ‘y’, ‘J’ ‘Q’, ‘7’ and ‘&’. In addition to these, there are three sets of arrows included: 1. simple small arrows; 2. simple uppercase arrows; 3. navigational arrows.
Aeonik Fono is particularly suitable for editorial and branding projects, taking grotesque to another dimension with its more interesting proportions and oversized serifs. It can easily be used side by side with the classical Aeonik in projects that require a more complex or creative typographical hierarchy.
