Oldschool Grotesk v2.000 – Updated Font Family

Oldschool Grotesk is a look behind the façade of Victorian sans serif inscriptions. Inheriting some of the distinct aspects of early British Grotesques and lettering from that period, it peels away the top layers of apparent quirkiness and eccentric detail. A reflection of Modernist roots through the lens of modern typography.

Oldschool Grotesk offers four distinct widths. The wider styles follow classical proportions, underpinning the early geometric heritage. Compressed, Condensed, and Compact are more regularized yet not mechanized. Smooth transitions between stems and arches form a steady rhythm and contribute a sharp, sparkling texture to the lighter weights. In darker weights, the small curves mimic the soft puffiness often observed in wood-type printing. A warm analog buzz for a cold digital world.

Since its initial release the design has been revised and extended into a comprehensive system of 40 individual styles. The Variable font combines all in a single file, allowing you to fine-tune width and weight and select the right style from an infinite spectrum.
