Victoria Font

The Victoria Font is a beautiful modern font that comes with 300 unique glyphs. It features super-smooth lines and characters that weld together nicely. The font has a modern calligraphy style and features beautiful swashes. It is easy to read and fun to work with. There is no doubt that you will get professional results with this font and you will be able to amaze your customers.

Creating the Victoria Font

The Victoria Font is created by Byuly Ayika. This small foundry specializes in creating high quality, mainly handwritten fonts. The font was crafted in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Banda Aceh is a beautiful city positioned close to the coast of Sumatra in the Bay of Bengal.

You can clearly see the influences of the active sea in this font. It’s fresh, curvy and very smooth, just like the ocean waves. I think you can already imagine the designer sitting at the beach with his notepad, drawing away his letters while he is enjoying the sun and a nice beverage. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

When creating Victoria the goal was to create a font that not only feels smooth but is also easy to read. To achieve this, the designer decided to make the letters thicker than most handwritten fonts. As you can see this was the perfect decision as it allows for creating readable high quality text.

OpenType Features

The Victoria font features many OpenType features such as:

PUA Encoding (Private Use Area)

This allows for all the characters to be accessed in any application, even if the application does not offer a glyphs panel. You can simply access all the characters in Windows Character Map or Mac Font Book.

Stylistic Alternates

Stylistic Alternates (also called Stylistic sets) were originally designed to offer various effects to the words you are typing with a specific font. The stylistic alternates in the Victoria font will give it a more animated and informal visual appearance. It will increase the appeal of the font. For example, instead of using a regular -v- you can choose to select one of the stylistic alternates. In the previous image you can see that the designer choose the -v- with a beautiful long swash.

Ligatures

Ligatures is the wonderful feature of combining certain combinations of letters to make the font more readable and visually appealing.

This is great when for example you are writing words with certain letters that follow up, such as tt, ll, oo. A font without ligatures will simply repeat the letter. A font like Victoria however, which contains ligatures, will detect that a character is repeating and will combine the 2 repeating characters with a beautiful single character.

Ligatures are really a sign of a high class font. We recently read a review about the Victoria font that said the font is basically a light-weight version of Laura Worthington’s beautiful Samantha Script font. Obviously the styles are different and Victoria is not as extended as the Samantha font, but we think it shares the elegance and the attention to detail.

Calligraphy Font

Victoria is a script font that features modern calligraphy characteristics. Digital calligraphy fonts are becoming increasingly popular over the last couple of years and Victoria is one of those fonts that stands out in the crowd.

Calligraphy is described as a visual art related to writing. Calligraphy is the design and execution of lettering. This is usually done with a dip pen or brush, although there are many other writing instruments that are used for creating calligraphy fonts.

Currently calligraphy is an art form that is really flourishing because of small designers and crafters that are creating beautiful invitations and signs. Victoria is one of the fonts that is extremely suitable for this.

Script Font

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, Victoria is a script font with calligraphic influences.

Script fonts are fonts that consist out of fluid strokes created by handwriting. Victoria is exactly that. After the handwriting process the font was scanned and digitally optimized to become super smooth. This way it becomes suitable for both digital and print design.

Fancy Font

Victoria is a fancy font. The swashes and swooshes it features are elegant and will make any invitation stand out. It prides itself with it’s smooth lines. The letters weld together nicely which makes it feel very fluid and fun to work with.
